The Ancient City

Day 01:
Arrive Luang Prabang
Dinner at the hotel | Victoria Xiengthong or similar

Our guide is waiting to meet you at the arrival hall, and you will soon be transferred to the hotel. Luang Prabang is perhaps the best-preserved traditional city in Southeast Asia. The tranquility and charm of this town, with its splendid natural scenery and cultural sights, make it one of the most delightful places to visit in Laos. The city is the home of many significant temples (Wats) and those are to be included in your today’s program, including Wat Visoun, a half-water melon stupa, the shrine of Wat Aham, and Wat Xieng Thong, a magnificent piece of architecture, which nestles at the meeting of the Mekong and the Nam Khan River. The temple structures are decorated in various ways with gilded stuccoes as well as doorways, and the main sim has a marvelous “tree life" mosaic pattern on an outer wall. We then climb up to the top of Mount Phousi for an enjoyable exploration of the sacred, gilded stupa, as well as to view a beautiful and panoramic sunset over the Mekong River. Then it is time to stroll down the night market, where you can find a lovely selection of textiles made by the locals and the hill tribe people surrounding Luang Prabang.

Day 02:
Bear Rescue Center, Kwang Si Waterfall
Breakfast at the hotel, Lunch at restaurant | Victoria Xiengthong or similar

An excursion by our minivan to visit Kwang Si waterfall, located 30km south of Luang Prabang. These nice falls are coming down as cascades on calcareous bedrock where they have scooped out small basins of turquoise color. A short trek around the fall is suggested. Just 300 meters before the entrance to the fall is the Butterfly Park, with numerous Laotian butterflies set in a beautiful wet landscaped garden. Spend a few minutes at Bear Rescue Sanctuary to find out about the “Free the Bears" program, where you can also donate or buy souvenirs here to support the running of the project. On your way back to town, stop by at Laos Buffalo Dairy to try their delicious cheesecake, buffalo milk, or ice cream. Finally, a short walk around the Hmong village of Ban Ouay, perhaps to have a chit-chat with Hmong children and photograph their beautiful handicrafts. Before ending our long day, we visit Ban Xang Khong and Ban Xieng Lek, which have specialized for many years in manufacturing and selling products made from silk and Saa Paper (the bark of the Mulberry Tree).

Day 03:
Luang Prabang, Departure
Breakfast |

After breakfast, you will be free to venture into town and stroll around the shopping area at your own time. The tour ends after your transfer to the airport for departure.
