Mekong River Cruise

This program is well combined with the trip from Chiang Khong, Thailand, where you can cross the border via the Thai-Lao Friendship Bridge IV check point in Bokeo province, Laos, where the journey below starts. Day 01:
Houai Xai, Pakbeng
Lunch at local restaurant Dinner at the hotel | Le Grand Pakbeng or similar

Embark on the private local wooden boat for our cruise down the Mekong River to Pakbeng. Pakbeng is known to be the main stopping point for boats and cruises traveling up and down between the two cities, Houai Xai and Luang Prabang. Pakbeng is where we spend the night before the morning transfer out to Muang La. Your lunch is prepared on board.

Day 02:
Pakbeng, Muang La

Breakfast, we are heading our way to Muangxai, the provincial town of Oudomxay, en route, we stop some villages and arrive Muangxai for late lunch at local restaurant. After lunch, we continue our drive to Muang La. Muang La is a pictures town nestled beside the Nam Pak River, a settlement of tranquil farmland and Khmu villages wrapped by rolling mountains. Check in to your resort and rest at leisure. Dinner is served at your resort.

Day 03:

A 4X4 takes you from the lodge, following a picturesque route along the banks of the River Nam Pak. After a few minutes, you leave the road and follow a mountain tail up the mountain. The trail can be difficult during the rainy season (even in a 4×4). The drive along the rail takes about 45 minutes and passes through some breathtaking scenery as you rise to 1,200m above sea level. You visit the Khamu village of Phou Ten Khamu and the Ikhos village of Phou Ten Akha. The Ikhos are the most isolated communities in Laos and originate from Tibet and Yunnan Province in China. In their mountain village, houses are built from bamboo and wood. You will learn about their way of life, their belief in the spirit world, which affects everything they do, and their unique method of dyeing their clothes using extracts from the plants of the forest. Back to the lodge and rest at leisure. Dinner is served at your resort.

Day 04:
Muang La, Luang Prabang

An early morning departure downsouth to Luang Prabang, the road journey passing numerous small villages. We arrive in Luang Prabang later in the afternoon for check-in and rest. Luang Prabang is perhaps the best-preserved traditional city in Southeast Asia. The tranquility and charm of this town, with its splendid natural scenery and cultural sights, make it one of the most delightful places to visit in Laos. In the afternoon, stroll down Mt. Phusi where you challenge yourself with a climb of over 300 steps to the top, overlooking the city of Luang Prabang. A terrace at the foot of the stupa offers a 360-degree panoramic view of the town, overseen by the gold-shining roof top of Hor Prabang Museum and the Sisavangvong Avenue, where a night market is held every night. We pay a visit to Xieng Thong temple before walking along the Mekong River, enjoying sunset nearby the river at your leisure.

Day 05:
Luang Prabang
Breakfast at the hotel |

A free day at your leisure, or else you can choose to continue your journey to other parts of the country.
