ITINERARY
Vientiane – Bolikhamxay, Kong Lor Cave
Lunch
Transfer by car to Khammoune province on Route South 13. Our stops will include Wat Phabat (Buddha Foot Print) and Pak Kading, a small town along the road. Admire a beautiful limestone viewpoint overlooking the beautiful scenery of mountains and unspoiled forest. We will depart for a secret garden: the famous limestone forest of Phou Hinboun. Check in to our guest house. Our guide then walks you to a village nearby, visiting tobacco farmers and observing the daily life of the locals here.

Kong Lor Cave – Khammouane, Thakek

After our breakfast, a short briefing will be given before entering the cave with our experienced boatman. This 7,5km underground boat river trip inside the cave tunnel is really a unique experience and you will be amazed by this circuit, passing from huge chambers to middle-sized caves till getting out of the cave beside Ban Nathan village. Rest and return the same way. Lunch will be served at a local restaurant nearby. In the afternoon, we
continue our trip to Khammouane province, also known as Thakek. Khammouane is a land of rugged karst mountains, which were once the refuge of a succession of ethnic groups fleeing the Haw invasions in the north during the 19th century. The famed Mu Gia pass at the end of route 12 was one of the main transit points of the legendary Ho Chi Minh Trail during the Indochina Wars. The province has many remaining buildings that date back to the colonial period, especially in the provincial capital of Thakhaek.

Thakek – Savanhnakhet

After breakfast, we will visit the Sikhotthabong Stupa. Finish our trip by walking around Thakek to see the most notable French colonial houses.We then travel further south to Savannakhet. The area of Savannakhet Province has been inhabited since ancient times, benefiting from the Mekong River and its tributaries. People here have cultivated rice in the largest plain in the country and fostered a rich art and culture. Visit the home of Lao PDR’s first Prime Minister, Kaysone Phomvihane, the 16th century Buddhist Temple Vat Xaiyaphoum, Saint Theresa Catholic Church, and plenty of colonial-era structures. Not to be missed is a trip to visit Pra That Ing Hang.

Overnight stay in Savannakhet
Savanhnakhet – Pakse, Champassak

Leave your hotel in the morning for a drive to Pakse, the capital of Champassak. Pakse is the most populous city in the southern province of Champasak, making it the third most populous city in Laos. Not to be missed on our way, it is a stop at Ban lak35 (km35) to try a charcoal grilled chicken with its typical chilli paste, and to make it even better, it is to have it with hot sticky rice. Arrive in Pakse, then service ends.
