Baci ceremony (Soukouane in Lao Language) is a ceremony to best throw good luck on a person or event. It is held when people are promoted on their work, move into a new house, start new jobs, marriage and may other reasons. Unique to Lao culture, Baci involves transferring good luck through bless strings that are tied to one wrist. The strings must stay attached for at least three day for the luck to remain. The ceremony is performed by senior person who often involved in Buddhist activity or used to be monk at some stage. Baci usually starts prior to the sunset and later followed by traditional Lao musical performance and dinner.
