The Golden Triangle

Day 01:
Arrive Chiang Rai, THAILAND

On arrival at the airport, you will be met and transferred to your hotel in Chiang Rai. Chiang Rai is a city in northern Thailand, in the mountainous province of the same name. The city is near the borders of Laos and Myanmar (formerly Burma). Check in to your hotel and rest at your at leisure.

Day 02:
Chiang Rai sightseeing

 Visit Wat Rong Khoun is also known as the White Temple. Whereas most temples visited by tourists have a history going back to many centuries, this magnificent place of worship was built only recently. Opposite to the White Temple is Banndam Museum known as Black Temple, there are contradicting philosophy of these two artists who go on different way and walk at different path. The cluster of 35hourses within the area of is decorated with exquisite carved wood. Horn and unique structural designs.  Afternoon, visit Long Neck KarenHill tribe – La Hu Hill Tribe at Ban Pha Ao. Check in to your hotel in the afternoon then at your leisure to scroll down the walking street by night. Overnight stay in Chiang Rai.

Day 03:
Chiang Rai

 Your trip departs in the morning to Doi Mae Salong, the ethnic Chinese KMT village, then visit Yao & Akha village, and Chinese tea plantation. Then continue your trip to Mae Sai for the boundary to Myanmar, Golden Triangle, where the Ruak River and the Mekong River meets forming the border of three countries, and the opium museum (Hall of Opium). Then continue to the ancient city of Chiang Sean and check in to your hotel. Overnight in Chiang Rai.

Day 04:
Arrive Hoai Xai, LAOS

Early morning, our driver will meet at your hotel for the transfer to the Chiang Khong border where you will be crossing to LAOS. Meet and transfer to your cruise representative with a welcome sign at the Chiang Khong immigration office. He will help the guests to exit Thailand and get the shuttle bus to Lao border (included). Then our local English-speaking guide will welcome them at Lao customs to apply for the visa. After getting the VISA, guests will take a sharing transfer by Tuk Tuk or Mini van to the slow boat pier to embark on the boat. During the cruise, the boat will take its first stop in Pak Tha, to get signed the boat documents. Lunch is served on board. We stop then a second time at a Kamu village. The boat will arrive at Pakbeng before the night. Overnight stay in Pakbeng.

Day 05:
Pakbeng, Luang Pabang

At 8:00am, the boat leaves Pakbeng. On the way, one lunch served on board and 2 stops: visit first Pak Ou Caves (Tham Ting), go then to Ban Xang Hai, a lao lao whisky village. Arrival in Luang Prabang around 4:00pm.

Day 06:

Each morning, hundreds of Buddhist monks line up in their deep orange robes and walk along the road to receive alms from the people of Luang Prabang, who wakes up early to cook the rice and prepare their offerings. This ritual has been a part of the area’s religious heritage ever since Buddhism was introduced to Laos in the 14th century — far longer than modern tourism has existed. Please, dress respectably (No short or sleeveless shirts), keep a respectful distance, and observe the ceremony in silence. We will make a short visit to fresh food market where minority come and sell their goods ie fresh vegetables from their own farms, rice, poultry, fresh fishes from the Mekong River, herbs and much more.

After breakfast, then explore Luang Prabang by minivan Visit the Museum (former king’s palace) –The former Palace displays a lovely collection of personal artifacts of the Royal family, photos, musical instruments and gifts received from foreigners. Just cross the street is Mt Phusi where we will climb up to the top to view the city (300++ steps). A visit to Wat Mai then Xieng Thong temple, the most beautiful temple in Luang Prabang with its mosaic decoration and the former royal carriage are there to be viewed. Afternoon, visit Photisak silver shop, and Minority Art centre, learn to know different type of minority groups in Laos, their ways of living, and their ways of survival. Last but not least, a visit to Wat Phabat Tai, a monastery complex built in the 17th century, a best place to view sunset if visiting in the evening.

Day 07:
Kwang Si Waterfall

A short ride out town to the Organic Farm where you meet the local farmer. You are invited to interact and experience steps out of the fourteen steps of the rice cycle including planting, caring, harvesting and cooking. The farm also grows organic vegetables, green salad, herbs and supply to the hotels in town.  The farmer will explain the uses of the different tools during each rice process since the planning until the final stage of cooking. Interesting enough to learn that local mainly still harvest rice without modern machinery. Please try the traditional foods made from rice before saying good bye to the farmers.

Visit in the afternoon to Kwang Si waterfall, located 30km south of Luang Prabang, these nice falls are getting downs as cascades on calcareous bedrock where they have scooped out small basins of turquoise color. Short trek around the fall is suggested. Just 300meters before entrance to the fall is the Butterfly Park, numerous Laotian butterflies set in a beautiful wet landscaped garden. Spend a few minutes at Bear Rescue Sanctuary to find out about “Free the Bears” program where you can also donate or buy souvenirs here to support the running of the project. On your way back to town, stop by at Laos Buffalo Dairy to try delicious cheesecake, Buffalo milk or Ice cream. Finally, a short walk around Hmong village at Ban Ouay to perhaps having a chit chat with Hmong children and photo their beautiful handicrafts. 

Evening, you are invited to attend Lao Fashion Show. The Lao textiles considered to be some of the most beautiful in South East Asia. You get to meet the twenty most epic and beautiful fashion show dresses from various Laos’ ethnic groups showcasing here at White Lotus Restaurant. These costumes not just represent the culture of Hmong, Lantene, Khamu, Lao Loum, Tai Dam but also reveal the most sophisticated creation and the complexity of lao textile work. Many ethnic women are skillful in spinning, dying, weaving of the cottons and silks resulted in additional income earned from trading the handmade work. Afterward, the delicious and flavorful traditional cuisine will be served together with glutinous rice.

Day 08:
Elephant experience & Biking

Begin to collect your bike and ready for a ride out of town heading south of Luang Prabang. Our first stop for today is Wat Pa Phon Phao, a forest temple with a great view of Luang Prabang. Continue on the paved road further through teakwood forests and rice paddy fields along the Nam Khan River to visit the resting spot of Henri Mouhot. The highlight of today trip is “an elephant experience” settle in the beautiful and quit landscape surrounded by the mountains and you’ll enjoy lunch in a beautiful setting. Afterward, take a boat ride to visit the Tad Sae Waterfall for a refreshing swim (August through January) or to a short jungle walk with a visit to a baby elephant in the jungle (February through July). After a short return boat ride, continue biking through beautiful scenery on a new path return to Luang Prabang.

Day 09:
Luang Prabang – Departure

After breakfast, there will be free for your own time to venture into town and stroll around the shopping area. The tour ends after your transfer to the airport for departure.
